August 15, 2016 - Mom regards pruning shears in her happy place, a garden.
August 13, 2008 - The Holiday Auto Theatre drive-in up in Hamilton, Ohio goes above and beyond with movie promotion.
August 12, 2015 - Ah, my old loft in Northside. The floorplan of this unit had transformed a factory’s public restroom into a living room and an elevator shaft into a bedroom.
August 11, 2006 - Went to a convenience store and bought one of every candy bar available. I had a scheme to collect them from all the stores and make a big poster. I probably had a funny title in mind. Nothing came of it. If there was a title I forgot it.
August 10, 2017 - Mom holds some porcelain berries. The colors of the berries are gorgeous on this creeping vine, sadly invasive and destructive.
August 9, 2009 - Silly habit: Trying to figure out where tail lights on RVs are from. These are probably from a mid 80’s Chevy Celebrity.
August 8, 2019 - Bad weather cancelled my flight and I had the chance to cross an item off my bucket list: The Jim Henson Exhibition at the Museum of the Moving Image. (Now part of the permanent collection!)
August 7, 2004 - The lease was up on our web design studio space and wanted to have one last party. It was too early for Halloween but a fine time throw a prom for no reason other than it could be fun — and it was, despite the drama in this snapshot.
August 6, 2024 - Today I look forward, not back.
August 5, 2015 - My friends bought their kid a Green Machine (a remake from Huffy, not the original by Marx Toys.)
August 4, 2016 - Glier’s Goettafest in Newport, Kentucky. (Goetta? It’s ground meat, steel-cut oats and spices — a mix between sausage and mush, popular in Cincinnati.)
August 2, 2013 - Lumenocity debuts in Washington Park, turning Music Hall inside out. This inaugural celebration combined the Cincinnati Symphony and Pops orchestras, Ballet, Opera and the Cincinnati May Festival with choreographed projection mapping by local artists. It was crowded (and awesome).
August 1, 2014 - A new bourbon bar opened in Northside. Littlefield was quite special, not just for the wide selection of bourbon on the shelves and excellent cocktails, but they also had incredibly good food.
July 31, 2006 - Continuing a streak of vehicles in front of stores, here’s a Dodge Trans Van in front of the Franks Nursery and Crafts in Eastgate. (I miss Franks.)
July 30, 2011 - Ben Franklin five and dime, Bethel Ohio. (It’s still there, operated independently since 2022!)
July 29, 2015 - Outside the Occidental Cigar Club in San Francisco
July 28, 2004 - Fountain Square with the Tyler Davidson Fountain facing 5th St.
July 27, 2013 - Hopped in a car with 3 guys to drive to the Monroeville Mall in Pennsylvania, filming location of the 1978 George A. Romero horror film ‘Dawn of the Dead’. (They still had an Orange Julius!)
July 26, 2017 - A print drying rack casts a shadow on the studio floor.
July 25, 2009 - Lake Festival Parade in Celina, Ohio
July 24, 2018 - I am that guy when you see a dear friend at the store and insist on taking a photo with their sons. I am so sorry, but also not.
July 23, 2012 - We’d vote blue as the sky that autumn in my home state of Ohio. Now I’m 52 and still live here. Got a boyfriend, a cat and tons of friends with daughters. We all prefer smaller government that stays out of our bedrooms, libraries and doctor’s offices. I understand the assignment.
July 22, 2009 - Outtake of the Dessners and Deals from a series to promote The Long Count, a 70-minute music and multimedia piece that debuted at the Brooklyn Academy of Music. (We’d rush the bench out to get takes between traffic.)
July 21, 2013 - After years of planning, 5 Points Alley opens up to the community of Walnut Hills. To commemorate the occasion a new brewery called Rhinegeist tapped some kegs.
July 20, 2016 - Mural of Rosemary Clooney (designed by Natalie Lanese for Artworks) getting painted in Over-The-Rhine. (Now obscured by a mixed use development, but an empty lot in city shouldn’t last forever.)
